This Sashiko embroidery kit comes with all of the materials needed to make a large needle/craft/sewing case. It includes four thread cards of Sashiko thread by the Japanese brand, Daruma, each card containing 40 metres. There will be plenty left over for other projects.
Instructions are included to make a large 24cm needle case or journal cover with this kit, and the guide includes both options. It is possible to combine the two and have a needle case with removable pages in, which is very handy!
The threads are beautifully smooth to stitch with. Sashiko thread is none divisible and very strong, also included is a pack of Sashiko needles by Olympus.

I believe that my new method of pattern transfer opens up more possibilities in being able to work more freely than traditional Sashiko embroidery kits. This is especially so compared to the old methods of following printed Sashiko fabric that have stitch lengths marked on the fabric, or the ancient prick and pounce method whereby pricking holes in the transfer paper and then dusting it with a powder to leave a mark, which can be quite fiddly. The kit is perfect for beginners as only one stitch is involved in the whole of the design, which is a simple running stitch.
By not having to follow individual stitch markings, it results in a much more free way of working, which is more akin to Boro. To avoid unneccessary processes and delays to stitching time, in these Sashiko kits I have included Vlieseline water soluble fleece to place over the embroidery pattern that is contained in the booklet. Then the pattern is traced with a pen or marker, which is then affixed to the fabric to be sewn onto and later removed with cold water. It doesn’t matter if mistakes are made when tracing the design, as the paper will be washed away later.
Please note that the sample shown has been stitched with different Sashiko threads. The threads contained in the pack are by Daruma, and the colours will be very similar to those shown.
This kit is not suitable for children as it includes an embroidery needle and small parts.
The fabric and threads are washable by cool hand wash. If you are concerned about fabric shrinkage, hand wash the linen before embroidering, and first run a line of stitch around all edges before washing.
Please note that the fabric has not been tested or treated for fire retardancy qualitites. This should be considered in the use of the product.

Reviews
It really enjoyed my first Sashiko stitching, using dissolvable fleece, large eye needle and the super threads from the kit.
Thank you Victoria for introducing this new way of working with a traditional stitch.
