Update on the Antique French Fashion Print stitching.

Hello to you,

As promised, here is an update on my stitching of the Antique French Fashion Print Applique kit.

This has been so enjoyable, and here is where I have got to so far. The below image is a close up showing some of the detail, and the image below that shows the whole panel.

To recap, these are the stages so far:

  1. I trimmed and arranged the fabric swatches on the linen base fabric.

  2. I stitched the photo to the base fabric. If you are using your own stash instead of the kit and you do not have a photo printed onto fabric, select something as a focal point to be central to the design. Focus your colours and themes around that.

  3. Stitch the fabric swatches to the base, before which I placed a barely visible permanent tack to hold everything in place without the need for pins.

  4. I made a Suffolk Puff to add texture and decoration ( or a Yoyo as they are also called). Details on how to make this are contained within the kit guide.

  5. I stitched the Suffolk Puff into position. The hole in the centre is quite large due to the thickness of the fabric. Today I will be finding a suitable button to stitch in the centre of the puff.

  6. Various pieces of lace were stitched in appropriate places to add decoration, and to hide wobbles in stitching. This is a therapeutic form of stitching, and I was focusing on enjoyment over accuracy. If on reflection there is something you do not like, either unpick it, alter it, or stitch something over the top. This is an ever evolving piece.

The next steps:

I will be adding some decorative embroidery to take advantage of the patterns in the fabric. I will also be adding buttons with stitching around them.

Stay tuned for more updates. Let me know how you are going on, and whether you are using the kit, or your own stash.
