Inspiration Packs - Help & Guidance.

If you have bought an Inspiration pack from my studio shop, and you'd like some ideas then please read on ..
To coincide with the exhibition at the studio, I have compiled Inspiration Packs, the reason being to inspire you really! It is so nice to have a small, contained pack from which to make a project without overwhelm, so here are some ideas that you could follow, but there is no right or wrong. It is important to enjoy the stitching without pressure, place the fabric swatches onto the base panel, and see where it takes you.
In each pack there is one larger plain base, most of them being pure linen, this is accompanied by patterned fabric swatches, many by Clarke & Clarke which are very high quality and of a vintage appearance.
Also, there are buttons and lace to trim and decorate with.
If you have a look at the sample for the French Fashion Print below, it's a similar concept, but wihout the photo. If you have a photo printed onto fabric, it might be nice to include it, but if not it's fine to create a focus with the patterned fabrics, and perhaps a few Yoyos (Suffolk Puffs).
The method for making a Yoyo is contained in the notes within the pack.
Ok, it's a simple process:
Firstly, I arranged the fabric pieces, pinned them in place, before stitching a barely visible holding tack to hold everything down whilst I do the permanent stitching. You can choose to remove this later or not.
Secondly, I stitched the swatches into place using straight stitches placed at right angles to the swatches. There is no need for needle turned applique, I find it is nice to embrace the fray!
The third stage involved decorating the piece with Yoyos and buttons, and embroidered flowers in any identifiable gaps within the swatches. Sometimes it is good to leave 'avenues of opportunity' to later place embroidery in.
