I am delighted to welcome Sue Stichbury of Calico & Stitch to the studio! Sue hosts highly sought after patchwork and embroidery workshops across the UK, Australia, and Europe. Many of her classes, which are famous for her signature "little lady" designs and use of Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics, frequently fill up fast. The workshop is running concurrently with the Small Beginnings, Great Expectations & The Lost Jackets exhibition that is taking place in the studio, and this project ties in beautifully with the poignant theme. Sue also has a stitched artwork in the exhibition for you to take inspiration from, there will be lots to gaze upon as you stitch away. In the workshop you will create a memory book using fabric, rag paper and other scraps. On this one day workshop Sue will guide you through making a textile book to hold your stitched pages and pockets, using vintage scraps of lace, fabrics and worn scraps from the large kit provided within this workshop. Add an old bus ticket, or a pressed flower in a pocket, also make sure to bring any items of treasure that hold personal meaning to include in your project. This slow stitch project is designed to keep your stories together. Sue will provide a squishy kit to get you started, but please bring other personal bits and pieces to make your project unique. Threads, needles, and tools will be in the studio for use, please bring fabric scissors. The project will be made entirely with hand stitching, a machine is not necessary for this workshop. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, and you are welcome to bring a packed lunch to the studio. Please note that the studio is on the third floor of the mill, with stair access only. The toilets are on the same floor as the studio.
