Gel Plate Print, Stitch, & Embellishment

Service Description

This workshop is suitable for beginners as all tuition will be provided. Learn the art of printing without a press. Full step by step tuition is provided in this workshop where we will first create a printed background on fabric with gel plate printing. Natural, botanical and abstract themes will be explored. Then we will select areas to stitch that will enhance the print, with stitch techniques such as needle weaving and other traditional but simple stitching techniques such as couching. You will select the colour palette from a wide range of threads and beads, all materials will be available to take with you to complete the project at home if needed. Gel plate printing is very easy to do, and I will guide you through each step. The print will be an abstract print, so there is no artistic skill required. The random areas of the print will then suggest areas to work into, and we will discuss this together, or you have free rein to be as creative as you like. This workshop also involves a few simple stitches, and I will guide you through the steps. It is also suitable for advanced stitchers as it is possible to be creative with the printing and embroidery. The embroidered panel can be applied to a number of objects, and you will have the materials to make yours into a needle case or a drawstring purse. Kit Contents: The materials included for you to embroider in the session, and to take away with you: - Fabric panels, calico and cotton. - Stranded cotton embroidery threads - Pure wool threads. - Beads and embellishments. - John James embroidery needles. All other materials that you will need will be for use within the studio, and you will have your kit to take home to finish the project.
