Service Description

A one day workshop to kick start many textile and embroidery projects. A day of drypoint etching, with time at the end to embroider your prints. Normally reserved for printing on paper, drypoint etching on fabric lends a very vintage feel to textile and embroidery work. This could be your next go to process for textile projects. I will also show you how to do this at home using minimal materials. However, in this class, we will be using my new printing press. Together we will work through the process of producing a plate and a simplified printing method, which makes it an accessible way to to learn. Using specialist inks and a printing press, we will first make a plate, which can be replicated many times, which you will have to use at home later. Drawing skills are not necessary, it is possible to trace designs if preferred. Drawing is very much encouraged, but no prior experience is needed. Drypoint etching is an intaglio printing technique. If you are a fan of rustic mark making, then this one is for you. Making prints for use in other projects and as artworks in their own right, is easily achievable with this quick and easy process, and you will leave with multiple prints for other projects. Also covered in this workshop is how to enhance your work with embroidery and embellishment, and how to take your project to the next level. We will start to embroider one of your prints, and you will have extras to work on at home. We will also discuss uses for your panels, and how to take them into a project following this workshop. This project involves a few simple stitches, and I will guide you through the steps. It is also suitable for advanced stitchers as it is possible to be creative with the printing and embroidery. All materials will be included: - Cotton fabric panels. - Calico panels. - Stranded cotton embroidery threads, and wool threads. - Beads and embellishments. - John James embroidery needles. All other materials that you will need will be for use within the studio, and you will have your kit to take home to finish the project. Numbers are limited on this workshop, to allow for maximum focus and teaching time. Please note that the studio is on the third floor of Woodend Mill One, and there is no lift. Please dress accordingly, as the ink could stain clothing. If you have any questions before the day, email me at hello@littlehouseofvictoria.com
