Spring/Easter Broderie Perse (Applique)

Service Description

This workshop worked so well at Christmas that I have planned a Spring and Easter themed version. If you came to the Christmas workshops, you will know that I have lots of fabric motifs, beads, trims and backgrounds, and this is what will be available to rifle through, as well as some new additions. There will be plenty of bunny themed fabric, as well as Spring flowers aplenty. The images shown for this workshop are taken from the Christmas workshop, we will craft some new Easter & Spring themed decorations. Broderie Perse is a French term meaning Persian embroidery. It is a decorative appliqué technique, popular from the 17th to 19th centuries, that uses cut-out motifs, like flowers, birds, or urns, from expensive printed fabrics, historically Chintz, and applies them to a plainer background fabric to create new designs, allowing for rich imagery without buying large amounts of costly fabric. In this workshop, we will be stitching decorations that will be lovely to hang in your home, made from pure wool felt with lots of embellishments of your choosing. It will be possible to make other items with your panels if preferred, such as needle cases, cushion fronts, wall hangings, or napkin holders. This workshop is suitable for beginners as you will work with me through each step, it is also suitable for advanced stitchers, as you can follow my examples or be as creative as you like. This is a very creatively freeing process, and there are no rules as the focus is on enjoyment over perfect results. The materials included are: - Pure wool felt fabric panels. - Wool felt for applique. - Vintage and new fabric swatches. - Perle Cotton. - Cotton skeins. - Beads & charms. - Cotton webbing. - John James embroidery needles. - Lace, ribbons, and wooden buttons. If you have any materials, threads or embellishments that you would particularly like to use, this is very much encouraged.
